Men’s hair replacement

Modern hair replacement, in private.

A private, one-to-one service for first-time and experienced wearers, grounded in honest advice, realistic expectations and first-hand understanding of what hair systems are actually like to wear.

WHAT IS A HAIR SYSTEM?

A modern, non-surgical way to replace the hair you have lost.

Close-up of a professionally fitted hair system hairline

At The Refinery, we provide men’s hair replacement using professionally fitted hair systems.

A hair system combines human hair with a specialist ultra-thin base, designed to sit closely against the scalp and replace hair precisely where it has been lost or has thinned significantly.

Each system is professionally attached, then cut and styled to blend with your existing hair. Colour, density, grey percentage (if needed), size and other details are selected around you rather than forcing everyone into the same result.

Once applied, your hair system is worn every day and becomes part of your normal routine. Most clients return for professional removal, cleaning and refitting at regular appointments. If you would prefer greater independence, I can also teach you how to care for and refit your system yourself. The aim is to give you the knowledge and confidence to live freely, not make you dependent on the studio.

The aim is not to turn you into somebody else. It is to give you hair that feels right for your face, your lifestyle and the way you want to look.

At The Refinery, we work within the Defined & Co ecosystem, bringing together its specialist hair systems, products and methodology as one connected approach.

Consultation

We discuss your hair loss, suitability, patch testing, expectations, lifestyle, ongoing care and the costs involved.

Your first application

Your scalp is carefully prepared before your hair system is professionally attached using Defined & Co’s application products and methodology, then cut and styled specifically for you.

We also show you how to care for and style your new hair at home.

Ongoing wear

Your follow-up, regular refits, future systems and continued support become part of a routine shaped around how the system wears for you and how you live.

THE DEFINED & CO RANGE

Two connected system families, chosen around you.

The Defined & Co range is built around two complementary system families: Defined Core and Defined Bespoke.

You will not be expected to choose between technical options on your own. We will recommend the most suitable route following your consultation, based on your hair, lifestyle, preferences and what you want from the finished result.

Defined Core Systems

Created around the colours and specifications most frequently needed by clients, providing a consistent and straightforward foundation for modern hair replacement.

Defined Bespoke Systems

Made to an individual specification when greater flexibility is needed around colour, grey percentage (if needed), density, base size or other characteristics.

LIVING WITH A HAIR SYSTEM

It has to work beyond the appointment.

Rear view of a hair system worn as part of a finished everyday haircutReal-life hair system wearer

Hair systems are designed to be lived in. Showering, sleeping, working, exercising, playing sport, styling, travelling and intimacy are all part of normal life with a system.

That is why the conversation at The Refinery goes further than the finished result. We talk openly about washing, drying, styling, attachment, aftercare, colour, refits and the smaller practical details that can make everyday wear easier.

Because I wear a hair system myself, those conversations are grounded in genuine experience as well as professional knowledge. I understand what it needs to look like in the chair, but also what it needs to feel like when you leave the studio and get on with your life.

Ways to access your systems

A simpler way to manage the cost of your systems.

For most regular hair-system wearers, Defined Society offers the clearest and most predictable way to access their systems throughout the year.

If you would rather avoid a monthly membership, Defined Access remains available as a pay-as-you-go alternative. Appointments and services delivered by The Refinery are charged separately under either option.

Defined Access

Pay as you go

£399 per Defined Core hair system

Defined Access allows you to purchase individual systems without joining a monthly membership.

  • Pay for each hair system individually
  • No monthly payments
  • No minimum commitment
  • Purchase your next system when you need it

Our recommended route for regular wearers.

If you expect to wear hair systems continuously, we will usually recommend Defined Society. It provides regular access to systems through a predictable monthly payment and makes planning your ongoing wear simpler.

Defined Access may be more suitable if you prefer complete pay-as-you-go flexibility or do not expect to need systems regularly.

We will explain both routes during your consultation and help you choose the option that genuinely fits how you intend to wear your hair.

FAQ

Hair replacement questions.

Honest answers to the questions most people want to ask before requesting a consultation.

What is a hair system?

A hair system uses real human hair set into an ultra-thin base. It replaces the hair you have lost, is bonded directly to your scalp and is cut and styled as your own hair.

Will it look natural?

Yes. Your system will be matched to your colour, density, natural hair and the result you want. The ultra-thin base and v-looped hair create an incredibly fine, invisible hairline, while the cut and blend bring everything together as one natural head of hair.

Will I need to shave my remaining hair?

Yes, we remove the hair within the area being covered so the system can sit directly against your scalp and bond securely. We do not shave away the natural hair around the sides and back that we use to create the finished blend.

We will show you exactly which area would be covered before anything is removed.

How is a hair system attached?

We prepare your scalp using the complete Defined & Co Scalp Preparation Methodology, then bond the system directly to your scalp using Defined Bond.

Defined Bond creates a strong, invisible hold designed to withstand heat, sweat, natural oils and moisture, so your system remains secure through everyday life.

Can I shower, sleep and exercise in it?

Yes. I wear a hair system myself, and it stays on while showering, sleeping, exercising, travelling and getting on with normal life.

You will need to look after it properly, but you do not need to organise your life around it.

How often will I need a refit?

Most clients have a full refit around once a month. We remove the system, thoroughly clean your scalp and the system, then prepare your scalp and reapply it using Defined Bond.

Your exact routine will depend on your scalp, lifestyle and how your bond performs. We will establish the right schedule together as we learn how your system wears in real life.

How long will my hair system last?

The honest answer is that everybody is different.

A Defined Core system is designed for approximately four to six weeks of wear. That reflects its deliberately delicate construction: real human hair, v-looped into an ultra-thin membrane to create the most natural finish and invisible hairline possible.

In practice, most of our clients wear the same system for around two to four months, and some have made theirs last for as long as a year. This is never something we can guarantee because its condition will depend on your lifestyle, home care, styling and how you treat the hair.

We will never push you into having a new system simply because a certain amount of time has passed. We will only recommend replacing it when we can no longer refit it to the standard you deserve. You come to us for great-looking hair, and that is what we want you to leave the studio with.

Defined Society gives regular wearers access to a new system with each successful monthly payment, so your ongoing system supply is already planned.

Can I wash and style it myself?

Yes. It becomes your hair, and you will wash and style it at home.

We will show you how to do this properly, which Defined & Co products to use and the small changes that help protect the hair and keep everything looking its best.

What if I have never worn a hair system before?

That is completely normal. You do not need to understand the terminology or know which system you need before contacting us.

I will explain honestly what wearing a system involves, including the result, application, home care, refits and ongoing costs, so you can decide whether it is right for you.

What if I already wear a hair system?

You are very welcome. We can talk about what you currently wear, what works well and what you would like to improve.

To assess your scalp, natural hair and current system properly, we may need to see the system removed during your consultation.

Is the consultation free?

Yes. The consultation itself is free, with a £25 refundable booking fee to secure your appointment.

If you proceed, the £25 is credited towards your first service. If you attend and decide not to go ahead, it is refunded.

Is The Refinery private?

Yes. The Refinery is a private, appointment-only studio. Your appointment is one-to-one, with the studio and the time set aside for you.
